I have been working since 1982 as
a psychotherapist at Counseling and Human Relations Associates
LLC. I previously worked for 3 years as a social worker/treatment
coordinator at St. John Children’s Home, a residential
treatment center for children and adolescents.
Working primarily with adults, I offer individual psychotherapy
services. I see the therapy relationship as a partnership
between myself and my clients. I believe that every person
who comes to my office enters therapy because of difficulties
with how they are living their life. Every person copes to
the best of his/her ability and often gets to a place in their
life where those ways of coping are no longer effective and
add to emotional pain. This pain can be manifested through
depression, anxiety, addictions, unresolved childhood issues,
etc…
I believe that each person has the supports within them for
their own emotional growth but often we live in disconnection
to ourselves. My role is to help a person identify the ways
he/she has lived from disconnection, the reasons why, and
bring what’s been unconscious to consciousness so a
person can live in more awareness of themselves, thus in connection
to self. With awareness, a person can live more from choice
than habit and find more effective ways of living.
Specialization
I have extensive experience working
with lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender clients. I specialize
in working with individuals who are dealing with questions
of sexual orientation as well as helping people who are exploring
their gender identity. I have facilitated coming out groups
for women and currently offer a monthly coming out group for
married women who are questioning their sexual orientation.
I have conducted workshops related to these topics both locally
and nationally.
